The Summer Challenge begins today. So far we have about a dozen people who have responded. Just to refresh everyone's memory, about 2 weeks ago a pic of me appeared in the Baptist Messenger. Check the pic and the article at http://bit.ly/cG3gf.
Here is the deal. Many of us need to lose a little around the waist, get ourselves into better shape, or just improve our eating habits (all three for me). What most of us need is some accountability. I thought it would be cool to make this process a little more fun, so let's just have a contest. Here's the plan:
We start today, but if you have not told us that you are going to join us, that's okay… but every day you wait means that much less time that you have to reach your goals because the target date is September 1. No matter when you started, September 1 is the deadline.
Let me know you want to participate and email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you want to be put on a team, we'll get you taken care of there. If you just want to be accountable but don't want to be in the competition, that's cool too.
10 Waist 10 points for every half inch reduction in waist
1 strength 1 point for every pound increase in bench press
1 strength 1 point for every pound increase in bicep curls
5 weight 5 points per pound decrease/increase (depending on your goal)
The first of each month is the official reporting day. So take your measurements when you start as your point of reference, and then on July 1, August 1, and September 1 we will have the official reporting of points. It's on the honor system! Just send me your points. I'll figure out some way to post the results without embarrassing anyone (especially me).
Remember, point totals accumulate with each official monthly report. So if you lose 1 inch off your waistline on July 1 that is 20 points. Stay the same on August 1 and you get another 20 points. So you get rewarded for keeping the weight or size off and increasing your strength.
