Our churches in Oklahoma are launching a new campaign in an effort to evangelize and disciple the people in our state. And… we are using a familiar strategy, but with a 21st century look and application to it. ReConnect Sunday School is an intensive effort by the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma to use Sunday School and home groups in an intentional and direct way to bring lost people to Christ and make disciples.
Built on what we are calling the four connections of a biblical group, ReConnect will help our existing churches and our new church plants use their small group or Sunday School as their church’s primary strategy to fufill the Great Commission. These four connections are:
Connect people to
- His Truth
- His community
- His mission
ReConnect Sunday School is about vision and strategy. Many of the Sunday School and small group leaders in our churches need to know that their ministry is vital to the ability of their church to actually do the Great Commission. Sunday School is how the church mobilizes to accomplish the Great Commission.
During the months of March and April, the leaders of our ReConnect Task Force will be going to associations all over our state to share information and ask pastors in Oklahoma to commit to making Sunday School their church’s primary strategy. You can use whatever curriculum you want. You can call your strategy Sunday School, Connection Groups, LifeGroups, etc. You can meet on the church campus along with a worship service or in homes during the week. These issues are incidental compared to the challenge of having a primary strategy that will share the Gospel in our communities and make disciples.
We are going to be encouraging our churches in Oklahoma to use Sunday School as their primary strategy to connect people to Jesus, His Truth, His community, and His mission. I hope you plan to join us and reconnect with Sunday School’s prime directive of making disciples through small groups.
