The state convention I serve has a rich and tremendous legacy of missions. One of the best things that Oklahoma Baptists do every year is partner together on a variety of mission projects. We fund many of these projects through the Edna McMillan State Mission Offering. This offering helps fund projects that range from church planting to oilfield chaplaincy to evangelistic outreach events to ministering to women who have been trapped into human trafficking.
The fact of the matter is that “We are Oklahoma Missions”! Part of our Acts 1:8 mandate is to reach our neighborhoods and communities, in addition to our country and world. Many of the mission projects we are supporting this year through this offering are to the homeless and hungry, and to those who are suffering human injustice. I want to encourage you to do more than watch the evening news… get involved! One of the first and easiest ways you can get involved is by giving an offering to the State Mission Offering through your local church.
Below is the video for “See Ya at the Pole”, an annual event on the last Wednesday of September that encourages junior high and high school students to gather around their school’s flagpole at 7:00 a.m. to pray for their school and classmates. Many churches and associations offer a See Ya at the Pole Rally on Wednesday night. These rallies often have many lost students present who come for pizza and music, but end up hearing the Gospel and have a chance to respond to the Gospel.
There is a DVD and also a resource pack that includes ideas to promote the Edna McMillan Offering for State Missions. All of the videos can viewed online, and the resource packet can be ordered at http://www.bgco.org/ministries/women’s/womens-edna-mcmillan
Oklahoma Baptists partner to share the Gospel in an Acts 1:8 strategy of reaching your neighborhood, state, nation, and world. Our goal for this year is $1.05 million. Help us impact lostness in our state by giving to the Edna McMillan State Mission Offering through your local church.
