My good friend John Elam is the DOM (that's Director of Missions for my non-SBC friends) for the Northwestern Baptist Association in Woodward, OK. On Monday, November 2, John is hosting a conference for church leaders and the theme for the conference is "For the World: Becoming a Great Commission Church Leadership Conference". Okay, I know it sounds like a title to a Jonathan Edwards treatise, but this looks to be a first class opportunity for information, dialogue, and inspiration about being a Great Commission Church in a 21st century world that is totally in love with itself! Here's a quote from John about this conference:
It is the aim of this conference to gather church leaders who take seriously the call of Christ to take the Gospel to all the world and begin a conversation that will challenge, inspire and lead us to engage the 21st century world. With our churches in decline and evangelism efforts at alarmingly low rates the time is now to ask the hard questions and wrestle with the difficult issues that face the church in today's culture.
Please come and be part of the conversation as we seek together how the local church should take up the mantle of the Great Commisson for the world. We need answers that are biblically sound, methodologically fresh, gospel centered and transformation oriented. Alvin Reid, Nathan Finn and Anthony Jordan will bring us the benefit of their insight and experience in talks and through a panel discussion. Your input is greatly desired. Please don't miss this great opportunity.
Here is the speaker run-down:
Dr. Anthony Jordan – Dr. J is the Executive Director/Treasurer for the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma. More than that, Dr. J is passionate about the Great Commission, and he is also passionate about the local church.
Dr. Alvin Reid – Alvin is a leader in the missional movement and is a dynamic speaker. He is the professor of evangelism at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and is one of the most requested speakers in the SBC.
Now a personal plug for this conference. I know that often due to our own busy schedules and our tight travel budgets that we have pastors and church leaders who can not attend one of those big mega-conferences that have well known speakers lined up one after the other for a couple of days. Northwest Baptist Association is bringing in three rock-solid speakers who are leaders in the Great Commission movement - to Woodward, Oklahoma! You will be able to talk to these guys individually during breaks, ask questions, and come away with a much more personal touch than you would ever dream at a big mega-conference.
You do not have to belong to the Northwestern Baptist Association to attend.
And… This conference is FREE.
I'm not sure about this, but you should probably let John know that you are planning to attend so he can make lunch arrangements. His email is firstname.lastname@example.org.
