I am a Minister of Education at heart. I love the ministry, role, and opportunities that are available to Ministers of Education. The ME role is one of the most critical ministry positions in our larger churches. I have been fortunate to have pastors that were willing to “loan” me to smaller attendance churches back when I was served as a ME in Texas and Arizona. Of course, I also have the opportunity as the Sunday School and Small Group Specialist at the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma to provide resources to our state’s education ministers as well Pastors and Sunday School directors.
We have launched a new online training website for people who lead Sunday School and small groups. As we began planning what we wanted to make available, we determined that we wanted to have learning opportunities for ME’s on our new site. A couple of weeks ago we invited some ME’s to come to Oklahoma City to shoot some training videos for us, and since we had them all there we also had a panel discussion as well. We are going to have a special week at our new website called “ME Week” and we although we are in Oklahoma, ME’s from other states are welcome to join us. The ME’s that volunteered to share their time with us are pictured at the right. They are (left to right):
- Clint Hayes, Southern Hills Baptist Church – Oklahoma City
- Jeff Young, Prestonwood Baptist Church – Dallas
- Allan Taylor, First Baptist Church – Woodstock
- “yours truly” Bob Mayfield
- Steve Stege, First Baptist Church – Frisco
So what is ME Week and how does it work?
When: January 13-17, 2014
What: We will feature a new video each day from one of the panelists. Also, each of the panelists will interact in the comments section when their video appears on the site.
Tuesday we will also feature a panel discussion with the five of us. During the panel, we discuss issues that are pertinent to Ministers of Education.
How: reconnectss.com is the online Sunday School and Small Group training website for the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma that we launched on October 1. Thanks to the generous contributions of Oklahoma Baptists, the resources on this site are available at no charge.
When you log onto the site:
Register on the site
You have the option to obtain certification. This is obtained by simply viewing the five certification videos (overviews of our Oklahoma Sunday School strategy called – ReConnect Sunday School). Certification takes about 25 minutes.
Watch the videos each day for ME Week. By the way, you can earn the coveted “ME Badge” by completing certification and watching the videos for ME Week.
You are encouraged to leave comments! The more we share with each other, the more we learn!!
Social Media – We will use the Twitter hashtag #MEweek for tweets and social media
As you can see, ME Week is going to be a lot of fun. Plus, you can interact as your schedule permits each day.
Plan to join us!!
