I work and serve at the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma. One of the core values of our state convention is that we exist for the churches; the churches do not exist for the BGCO. One of the primary ways we express this core value is by providing resources to our churches that many, if not most, could not provide themselves. Our ReConnect Sunday School initiative is an effort to connect our partnering churches together toward a common goal of connecting the churched and unchurched people of our state to Jesus, His Truth, His community, and His mission.
This coming Monday (October 14), we are launching a new website aimed at resourcing the many needs that our churches have in the area of Sunday School and Small Groups. Although this new website has many great features (for an overview go here) and will allow us to offer more equipping resources than we have before, it is not the only way that we will deliver resources across our state. Here are some other equipping opportunities that we are offering in Oklahoma in 2014.
ReConnect Sunday School Equipping Site
We launch this new site in 6 days, with over 80 videos and 14 badges. An additional 17 badges are already being planned for next year. We are excited about this online resource that Sunday School leaders can access on demand. We will have more posts this week about the ReConnect Sunday School site.
Transform is a state-wide equipping conference that is focused on Bible teaching skills. Transform will take place at Quail Springs Baptist Church in Oklahoma City and Quail Springs’ pastor, Dr. Hance Dilbeck, is the keynote speaker. We are partnering with LifeWay to do the Transform Conference and we are expecting over 1,000 Sunday School teachers on Saturday, March 29.
Regional ReConnect Seminars
In addition to the state-wide Transform Conference, we will also do four regional training clinics in our state on the weekend of August 15-17. We will have a top-notch faculty of pastors and Sunday School leaders from across Oklahoma who will serve as consultants for the regional seminars. If for some reason you are unable to attend Transform, these regional seminars will also be excellent training events.
Associational ReConnect Seminars
We are keeping the four teams that we develop for the Regional Clinics together and these teams will be available for our associations to use for their Sunday School training. For some associations, either the date or distance does not work well with their churches schedules. By keeping our regional teams together, we will still be able to provide quality training for our churches in Oklahoma.
Many of the certification and badges that Sunday School leaders can earn on the new ReConnect training website will also be available at our on-location training sites as well. Obviously, not all badges will be available; but Sunday School leaders from across our state will be able to access quality training online or at one of our on-location seminars.
Whether your training needs are next week or next year, our state convention is partnering with our local churches to provide quality training for our state’s ministry leaders.
