We have all made mistakes. I have made some big mistakes in my life and I’m sure you have as well. Mistakes and poor judgment always carry consequences with them and sometimes the consequences include prison. But what do you do when you pay your debt to society, leave prison, and find yourself unemployed and lacking the job skills you need to remake your life?
Let me introduce you to the Christian Men’s Job Corps, a ministry of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma and funded through our annual Edna McMillan Oklahoma State Mission Offering. My friends Paul Bettis and Don Williams of the BGCO coordinate this partnership with Baptist churches in Oklahoma.
Your church has the opportunity to provide hope to men newly released from prison and who need someone to believe in them and equip them with the skills necessary to provide for themselves and their family. In addition to job skills, you are also putting the Gospel on display and giving these men the opportunity to not only have a life here on earth, but an eternal life with Jesus Christ.
You can contribute to the Edna McMillan Oklahoma State Mission Offering by giving to your church and noting “SMO” on your check.
