Welcome to “A Better Group in 31 Days”!
Before we get started, let me share one thing – Your small group or Sunday School class matters! It matters to God; it matters to your church’s leaders; it matters to the people in your group; and it is going to matter someday to some people who don’t even know about your group! The group that you lead matters and it is vital that you set your sights to have a small group or Sunday School class that is growing in its relationships with Christ, with each other, and making disciples. So let’s start with a basic question:
Could your group improve?
Is your group as close to God as it could be? Could your group do a better job in Bible study? Evangelism? Ministry? Does your group meet once a week for a lesson or is there life transformation taking place? Over the next 31 days, our goal is to have a group that is a better group to belong to; a group that loves each other more; and a group that is more in love with Jesus Christ when we’re done. Fair enough?
So here is our game plan for the next month: First, drop by the blog every day and read the daily post. Each post will be brief and you should be able to read it in 5 minutes or less. In fact, go to the orange box in the top right corner of this page and enter your email address and subscribe to the blog. You will receive a reminder email every day to check in for that day’s post. Second, each post will have some kind of action plan. Don’t be a wimp and skip the action plan! Come on! If you’re going to do this for the next 31 days, do it right!
I also encourage you to keep a journal. Scribble your thoughts in it, and write your daily action plan in the journal as well. The simple act of writing helps engage the brain and you will concentrate better – plus, you’ll remember things better as well. Review your journal from time to time and refresh your memory about what you were thinking and some ideas you have for your group.
Finally, remember that small changes are easier to make than big ones! It is usually easier to implement 31 small changes in your group than it is one big, colossal change. So check in here for a few minutes every day… and realize that you are not in this alone. Every day, there will probably be hundreds of other small group and Sunday School leaders dropping by too, and they will be going through much of the same things that you are.
See ya on Day 1…
